Your DJI Goggles 3 in AIRLAB FPV: watch, record and compare your real flight
AIRLAB Gafas is a small program for Mac and Windows that receives your DJI Goggles 3 video over USB or over their WiFi and brings it into the simulator. There you watch it full screen, picture-in-picture, next to the simulated flight or blended with it; you record it as MP4, stream it live to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook or Instagram and send it to the phone viewer and the remote instructor.
Download AIRLAB Gafas
On Mac, the first time macOS will say it cannot verify it (it is not signed by Apple): click «Done», go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to «AIRLAB Gafas was blocked» and click «Open Anyway». It will then ask for Bluetooth and local network permission: allow both.
Free viewer: watch your goggles here
With AIRLAB Gafas open, connect the goggles and watch the video right here, full screen, and record it as MP4. No account needed.
How to use it
- Open AIRLAB Gafas. A page saying «AIRLAB Gafas is running» opens; you can close that tab, the program keeps running in the background until you click «Close AIRLAB Gafas» or shut down the computer.
- Open the simulator (Chrome or Edge work best) and click Real goggles in the top bar.
- By USB cable: USB-C data cable, «OTG Wired Connection to Computer» in Settings › About, and «Share Liveview via Wi-Fi» in the quick menu. The most reliable, lowest latency.
- By WiFi: «Share Liveview via Wi-Fi» and click «Connect by WiFi». AIRLAB Gafas asks the goggles for their network over Bluetooth (the first time, hold their Power button for 2 s), joins the computer to it and the video starts. The password is saved (on Mac, in the Keychain).
What you can do with the real video
Watch and record it
Full screen or picture-in-picture, and recorded as MP4 on your computer (Movies/AIRLAB folder), clean from the first frame.
Go live
Stream your real flight, or the simulator with its OSD, to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook or Instagram (vertical too), several at once, just by pasting each platform’s stream key.
Real versus simulated
Split screen with your real flight on the left and the simulator on the right, or both blended with transparency to compare.
Phone viewer and instructor
The same video reaches the phone viewer (also in VR headset mode) and the remote instructor, over the same spectator-mode connection.
Only on your computer
AIRLAB Gafas listens only on your own computer and only answers the AIRLAB website. It sends nothing to any server.
AIRLAB Gafas uses the Goggles 3 video session documented by the free dji-goggles-bridge project (Evols, CC BY 4.0 licence). It is not a DJI app nor authorised by DJI, and a goggles firmware update may change how it works. Watching the video on the computer does not replace the visual observation the rules require.
Questions
Which goggles work?
DJI Goggles 3, over USB and over WiFi. Other goggles, not for now.
How much latency is there?
Over USB, very little; over WiFi, a bit more. It is not for flying from the computer screen: the goggles remain your flight display.
Why does the computer lose internet over WiFi?
Because it joins the goggles’ own WiFi, which has no internet. If you want the phone viewer or the remote instructor at the same time, use the USB cable or give the computer internet over an Ethernet cable.
Can I stream my flight to YouTube or Instagram?
Yes. In AIRLAB Gafas, “Go live”: pick YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Instagram or another RTMP server, paste the stream key and click go live. The computer needs internet meanwhile, so connect the goggles by USB.
Is it free?
Yes. The program is free; the simulator needs an account (there is a free trial).
