Professional UAV drone mission training

From flying to working: inspection, cleaning, rescue and surveying.

Twelve real jobs with a gimbal camera (RGB with zoom and thermal) and the aircraft you would really use: wind turbine blades and cleaning them with a tethered drone, an aircraft in a hangar without GPS with its damage chart, a solar plant, the inside of a tank, a telecoms tower, a bridge, a power line, a dam, rescue and hotspots at night, and the volume of a stockpile. Every attempt changes, scores out of 100 and ends in a PDF report with photos, location and classification of every finding.

Multirotor inside a hangar inspecting a single-aisle aircraft, with the window for classifying a damage
Aircraft in a hangar
No GPS, in ALT_HOLD or FLOWHOLD. You measure each damage and classify it: allowable, repairable or out of limits.
Damage chart: plan and side view of the aircraft with sections, ATA 06 zones and colour-numbered damages
Damage chart
ATA 06 zones, section, station and frame of each damage, with your classification against the correct one.
Multirotor next to a wind turbine blade with a damage in the centre of the camera
Wind turbines
All four faces of every blade, from more than 10 m away, and the severity of each damage from 1 to 5.
Tethered cleaning drone washing a blade with the hose running down to the truck
Cleaning with a tethered drone
The hose is heavy, the wind drags it and the jet pushes back. Clean 90 % without wasting water.
Solar plant on the thermal camera with a disconnected string
Solar plant
Hot cells, bypass diodes, dead strings: find them and say what type each one is.
Night search: the hiker as a white dot on the thermal camera
Rescue and hotspots at night
With the thermal camera, among animals and rocks that give off heat too.

Gimbal camera

4K RGB with ×8 zoom and 640 × 512 thermal with ×4 zoom. You tilt, pan and zoom with the keyboard or the buttons, and see the GSD live.

Findings that are checked

It only counts if it can be seen, with the right sensor and in enough detail; then you classify it. Marking what is not there costs points.

No GPS when it matters

Hangar, tank and under the bridge: ALT_HOLD, FLOWHOLD and the EKF failsafe, as in a real job.

Three work multirotors

An inspection drone, a tethered cleaning drone with a hose and a caged drone for confined spaces. You choose the aircraft for each mission.

New · operations centre

Drone-in-a-box: operate remotely, as in a control centre.

The drone lives in a box on site and takes off on command. You fly it from the console: flight plan with geofence and battery reserve, the camera video large (RGB with zoom and thermal) and the 3D flight small, commands to go to, orbit, follow and return to the box, and the sticks when needed. Five services at real locations: perimeter and port (Algeciras), forest fire (Grazalema), mountain rescue (Cazorla), coast and border (Tarifa) and flood (Paiporta).

Operations centre: drone video large with a helicopter alert, 3D flight small and the console with the map
Drone video large
You classify what you see, decide whom to alert and resolve the alerts: here, an emergency helicopter.
Drone thermal camera with a person in white next to some containers
Thermal
People, animals, engines and fire in white; smoke does not hide them. With zoom and lock on a point.
Manual control: 3D flight large with the OSD and the drone camera small
Manual control when needed
With the sticks or the X key the view swaps: the 3D large and the camera small.
Service report with the score out of 100, the breakdown and the photos of the detections
Service report
Score out of 100, what you missed, the photos of each detection and the timeline. It counts towards a course with a certificate.

Real contingencies

Link with the real terrain line of sight, wind, battery, helicopter, GPS, geofence, thermal camera failure and a box that will not open.

False alarms

A security guard in a hi-vis vest, rocks hot from the sun, goats, surfers, empty cars. Mobilising someone for nothing costs points.

Teams that arrive

Security guard, patrol, firefighting helicopter, rescue team, Salvamar boat or fire brigade: keep the target on camera until the handover.

Two drones and rounds

A second drone with its own box in the higher levels and up to three rounds with battery and time changes; the last one at night.

Which professional missions you can train

Each mission reproduces the job with the aircraft and camera you would really use, and is assessed as a client would assess it: what you saw, in how much detail and how you classified it.

Wind turbine inspection

All four faces of every blade from more than 10 m away, with the severity of each damage from 1 to 5, and cleaning with a tethered drone with a hose.

Photovoltaic installations

With the thermal camera: hot cells, bypass diodes and dead strings, each with its type.

Industrial inspections

Telecoms tower, bridge, power line, dam, the inside of a tank and an aircraft in a hangar without GPS with its damage chart.

Photogrammetry and surveying

Stockpile volume and survey sweeps with camera triggering by GSD and overlaps. More in photogrammetry and remote sensing.

Search and rescue

Rescue and hotspots at night with the thermal camera, and in the operations centre mountain, coastal and flood rescue.

Thermal inspection

640 × 512 thermal camera with ×4 zoom alongside the 4K RGB with ×8 zoom, with the GSD live.

Complex operations

Flying without GPS in ALT_HOLD or FLOWHOLD, EKF failsafe, drone-in-a-box operated remotely and link, battery and geofence contingencies.

Assessment and report

Score out of 100, findings that only count if seen with the right sensor, and a PDF report with photos, location and classification.

Simulated data. The damages, temperatures, measurements and reports in the missions are generated in the simulator for practice. They do not come from real operations and cannot be used as the result of an inspection. What you train is the procedure: plan, fly, find and classify.

Arm, transition, land. And let Captain Pitot tell you how to improve.
